Just 2 days left before the opening of the Defi: strong Tramontana announced to welcome the challengers!
Storm warning announced, a big part of the challengers is already training !
While a strong Tramontana is forecasted from Tuesday to host the participants of this 11th Defi Wind, most have arrived and are already training while the organization refines the details. Wednesday, registration day, the spot of Gruissan may be on fire since all the racers are already invited to a warm-up session starting at 2pm ! The riders will thus be able to train hard with long speed runs close to the beach ! New partner of the Defi this year, Baston.fr said there will be Tramontana until Thursday, and for the occasion will be installed an additional tag at the start line to avoid the wrong gear before heading out on the water. The 2011 Defi starts pretty good !
Training sessions and professional tips.
In 15 to 25 knots of Tramontana, it was the first day of practice on Saturday for ten amateurs currently participating in the “clinic” (training camp) introduced by the tour operator Ultra Marina, with french Champion Nicolas Warembourg who officiates as a coach until June 1st. Race support, tests and discovery of new gear.
Prestigious windsurf brands are present on this 11th Defi: Exocet, XO Sails, RRD, Simmer, Loft Sails, JP and Neil Pryde. The participants, as well as the public, can so hang around the stands build up for the occasion on the beach of “Les Chalets”, test the 2011 equipment and perhaps discover in preview some 2012 gear. Neil Pryde will build a “technical assistance” specific stand that will also be opened during races. 5 professional reps will be available for the challengers to provide some equipment, spare parts and rigging tips.
GPS trackers to broadcast the race live.
Partner of the event since 5 years, Mygeolive will equip on this 11th edition 100 racers with “trackers” (GPS markers) to track competitors live on the Defi website (www. defiwind.com). This year, girls will be a priority feature of this ingenious geo-location system ! With informations about the position and speed, you can follow their performances in real time and even do a “replay” of the race of the day!
Environmental awareness and beach cleaning.
With the presence of french rider from Lyon, Greg Penne, as Ambassador, Surfrider Foundation Europe joins the partners of the Defi Wind 2011. The campaign “Respect your Sea! ” will feature beach cleanup with the participants and meetings about the coast protection. At the same time, it is good to know that the event is equiped with toilets that are “dry” with compost, so waterless and odorless!
