E più precisamente sui numeri di febbraio e marzo di Wind News quel qualcuno lo diceva che gli alberi in tre pezzi della North sia sdm che rdm erano un bel passo avanti… e non solo per il trasporto! A quel qualcuno, che non è altro che il vostro caporedattore, era strapiaciuto il modello rdm, tanto che nel test diceva che «…il punto di innesto dei comuni alberi in due pezzi, va spesso ad interferire sulla curva d’albero, ma con questo albero grazie ai due inserti si ottiene una flessione omogenea ed armoniosa nella sua parte centrale, quella critica dell’albero. Risultato?! La Ego 5,3 anche nel ventone rimane super leggera sulle braccia e la vela sventa molto più del normale, aiutandoci nelle raffiche più forti…». E dire che noi avevamo provato in entrami i modelli rdm ed sdm, il Silver, quello “solo” carbon 55! Nello stesso periodo, marzo 09, anche Jimmy Diaz dopo aver testato il prototipo finale del North PLATINUM 3 SDM rimaneva impressionato dalle prestazione dell’albero, utilizzato addirittura su una vela World Cup Racing… «I tried the 3-piece masts today against our production 2-piece PLATINUM mast on the Warp F2010.  To my surprise the 3-piece mast outperforms the 2-piece mast in every way: it seems to give a feel to the sail that I have not felt with any 2-piece mast before. I’ve felt noticeable and immediate increases in handling, top-end speed, wind range, a nicer pumping ability and general ease of use. Right now I’m very, very excited about these masts. I can tell you that I can’t wait to race on these masts – they’re bound to make our sails better than they already are.  From a performance point of view, I would put this mast straight into production.  I cannot believe that one top and bottom piece with three different middle sections can outperform our regular two piece masts on sails from 5.7 to 9.0.»
